A putting grip

September 10th, 2007 · No Comments

Shawn Clement, Director of the Richmond Hill Golf Learning Centre and CPGA Professional, shows how the right putting grip will set the arms and putter to hang in balance properly from the shoulders down allowing the putter to track down the top of the target line on it’s own.

A golf grip for other clubs except the putter is usually at the base of the fingers or just under the heel pad of your left palm. This popular putting grip runs through the middle of the palm with the grip just underneath the thumb pads of both hands. This allows the putter shaft to be more verticle and hand straight down from the forearms and shoulders which also makes it easier to have a pendulum swing.

You place the left hand on the grip with the shaft under the thumb pad and the thumb on top of the grip and then place the right hand on the grip with the left thumb alongside the lifeline of your right hand and the right thumb on top of the grip. Raise the index finger of your left hand and slide your hands closer together and place the index finger in between the notch of the 2nd and 3rd finger of your right hand.
