Do you skull the ball on short iron shots?

September 6th, 2007 · No Comments

Barry Bonifield from the Crescent Hill Golf Course in Louisville, KY about Skulling the Ball. The largest reason for hitting the ball in the side with your golf club or skulling it is because of a posture change during the downswing. Barry illustrates correct posture in this golf instruction video and correct body rotation.

To rotate correctly, the hips rotate, and don’t slide from side to side. That means that the right hip rotates backward in the backswing and your left hip rotates backward in the followthrough and you maintain the spine tilt that you establish at address by tilting forward at the hips with your weight over the balls of your feet establishing an athletic stance.

The final key is to ensure that you clip the grass with the sole of the club at impact with the ball. During your practice swings, ensure that you hear that “magic sound” as Barry calls it which is the sound of clipping the grass with the club at impact.
