Golf Instruction – How to stop slicing the golf ball

June 18th, 2007 · No Comments

A slice is caused by a clubface that is open to the swing path at impact no matter whether your swing path is down the target line or not.
Strengthen your grip – If you were holding the grip and your palm was facing to your right, turning your hand clockwise around the grip strengthens your grip. When you are set up to the ball and ready to hit, looking down at the top of your left hand, you should be able to see the first 2.5 – 3 knuckles on your left hands fist.
Move the ball back in your stance an inch towards you right foot.
Check where your hands are hanging beneath your shoulders. If you push the ball away from you too far and you’re strething for it, it makes it difficult to release the club.
Concentrate on your right arm straightening out sooner on the down swing and your right arm turning over your left arm at impact.
If your swing path comes back on the inside on the backswing, chances are you will swing from the outside to the inside on the downswing which causes a slice. Focus on taking the club back more straight and away from you to keep your swing path on plane.
