Eddie Lee from the David Leadbetter golf academy at Wailea Golf Club Emerald Course. Eddie demonstrates several key tips to ensure you hit a good drive and possible give yourself an opportunity to reach the green in 2 on a long par 5. He continues on with a downhill 2nd shot and finishes with the putt on the green.
1. The golf ball position in your stance should be in line with your left arm pit.
2. At address, 60% of your weight should be on your back foot and 40% on the front foot.
3. Your spine should be tilted to the right and you’ll be looking at the back of the golf ball.
4. Control your backswing. Don’t over swing. Your arms should stay attached to your upper body so that when your upper body can’t turn any more, your arms should not continue to raise higher or farther around. If you forcer your arms to go higher and further, they become seperated from your upper body making it very difficult to get everything back in sync for the downswing.
5. On down hill lies, the golf ball goes back in your stance a few inches.
6. The angle of your shoulders should more closely match the slope of the hill.
7. During the downswing, you should feel like your chasing the golf ball “down” the hill to ensure good contact.
8. When putting, the golf ball should be positioned right underneath your front eye which is about 1 inch or so left of center. You can test that by standing over the ball and holding a golf ball underneath your front eye and dropping it and seeing whether it lands on top of the golf ball on the ground.
9. Allow the top of the clubshaft to point at you through out the putt swing to ensure you release properly.
