Solid contact is the key to distance, accuracy, and overall shotmaking ability. The proper impact position with an iron is different than that of a driver. Hitting the golf ball with an iron requires contact with a descending blow where the golf ball is pinched into the ground. Hitting the golf ball with the driver requires an ascending impact where it feels like you are swinging upward toward the golf ball. In this video, Doug Hammer, PGA, at Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale demonstrates both golf shots.
