On a long chip, you use a club with just enough loft to get the ball up and over the long grass and rolling on the green as soon as possible so that it rolls to the hole like a putt. For example, you could use a 3 wood or a 5 - 7 iron but use just enought loft to get it just over the long grass and no more.

1. Pick a target just like you would for putting aiming left or right of the hole for the break.
2. The ball position is in the center of your stance.
3. Your weight is on your front foot.
4. Lean the club shaft toward the target so that your hands are in front of the ball making it easier to get good contact with the ball, pulling the clubhead through the contact area.
5. Use the amount of swing that you would use for a putt. Because you are using a club with less loft, the ball will roll forward about the same amount as it would if you were putting it.
