PGA Golf Pro Roger Gunn - Hitting the Low Flying Knock Down Shot, a High Shot over a Tree and Shot Strategies

August 9th, 2007 · No Comments

Hitting a low trajectory knock down golf shot underneath trees as well as a high climbing shot over the trees is illustrated by Roger in this golf instruction video. Roger also explains shot strategy to maximize your scoring potential.

Knock Down Shot
The key to getting a low trajectory knock down golf shot is delofting the golf club. You kind of play this shot like a big chip shot.

1. Ball back in stance.
2. Handle forward. (Keep the clubface square. Clubface will appear hooded over the ball)
3. Stance a little narrower.
4. Weight on Front Foot.
5. Pay attention to the loft of the golf club you are using so that you don’t hit it too low and plow through the grass stopping the golf ball. Delofting a 3-4 iron very much doesn’t leave much loft to get the ball off the ground.
6. Drag the club through impact with the hands forward and the body rotating helping.
7. Tighter Grip
8. Keep the wrists a little more firm using more arm and shoulder power.
9. Finish with the hands low.

High Shot over Trees
Use the tips for the knock down shot in Reverse. You need a good lie to play this shot because you have a flatter swing into the ball that can catch the grass so if it isn’t a clean lie, try a different kind of shot.

1. Place the ball forward in your stance.
2. Handle vertical with hands over the ball.
3. More weight on back foot.
4. Use a more wristy swing.
5. Light Grip

When hitting shots out of trouble, it’s important to remember that you won’t always be able to get ideal results. Make the most of the shot and don’t get greedy so that you don’t make a bad situation worse.
