This golf instruction video illustrates when and how to use the lob shot. Roger explains that you don’t see the “wicked high” super lob shot as he calls it very often because it is more difficult to hit and therefore a lower percentage shot, not a scoring shot. When you decide that a lob shot is the best option for you, this is how you do it. Executing the shot in this manner is a high percentage golf shot that you can reproduce time after time. The conditions for this shot are that the ball needs to have enough grass underneath it for the club to be able to just barely slide underneath the golf ball. You don’t want to hit this shot off of hard pan because the club can’t slide underneath.
Basically use the same techniques as for a standard chip shot except with some “subtle” not huge variations.
1. Weight Less Forward
2. Ball more forward toward middle of stance
3. Club more vertical with hands over the ball
4. “Slightly” open clubface (Ball will tend to go right a little so compensate by aiming body left)
5. Club “still” brushes the ground “after” the ball. Don’t try to scoop the ball.
6. Swing practice swing to get the feel for the amount of swing and to practice hitting the ground in the right place.
Roger uses this shot from about 30 yards in because it’s a soft shot with not as much spin. Shots from 50 yards can be done with more spin so they don’t have to go as high.
