Pitch Shot Technique - Jeff Ritter

August 30th, 2007 · No Comments

When you have to get the ball higher and land it softer, here is the technique that Jeff recommends. A good pitch shot will cut many strokes from your game because most of the time when you miss a green, chances are you miss it by more than just a foot or two which would require a simple chip. If you miss it 10 feet or more, a good pitch shot will save par for you.

1. Choose a sand wedge or a lob wedge. Don’t use a pitching wedge, even though it says pitching wedge.
2. When pitching, you want a higher trajectory than a chip and so the golf ball goes farther forward in your stance than a chip. A typical pitch shot will place the ball in the middle of your stance.
3. Open the clubface if you want additional loft and an even higher trajectory.
4. Because a pitch shot travels farther, you need more swing. To accomplish that, you need to allow your forearms to rotate and your wrists to hinge for more clubhead speed.
5. Followthrough the same amount as your backswing or a little bit longer. If you have a half swing backswing, use a halfswing or a little longer followthrough.
