In this golf video, Roger explains what you might look for specifically when purchasing irons to ensure that you can execute the golf shots at the course the way you would like to. The is no right or wrong answer to this, the conditions of the golf course or courses that you play will be the determining factor as to what style of wedge you look for depending on whether the surfaces are harder or softer.
Primary Consideration
1. Bounce (How the bottom of the golf club is angled to prevent the golf club from digging into the ground)
Typically, the sand wedge has the most bounce as an example because it is generally used to hit golf balls off of soft material or ground, however some golf courses have somewhat hard sandtraps that isn’t fluffy where you would want less bounce. You also need to look at the design to see what happens when you open the clubface because many wedges add additional bounce as part of their design as you open the clubface. No bounce would be desirable in hard pack conditions because the club can’t dig into the ground and if you use a club with bounce on hard pan, the leading edge is forced into the side of the golf ball rather than being able to get underneath it.
