PGA Golf Pro Roger Gunn - Hitting full shots from the Rough

August 8th, 2007 · No Comments

This golf instruction video illustrates what points of your setup and swing need to be changed to hit a full golf shot out of the rough correctly.

1. Place the golf ball a couple inches farther back in your stance. You should feel like you are hitting down more sharply than normal.
2. Let your wrists hinge more quickly in the backswing to achieve a steeper swing.
3. Grip the club more tightly.
4. Add a higher lofted club to make up for the delofted angle caused by the ball position and the hands being forward. Make sure you use enough loft to get “up” out of the grass so the ball doesn’t have to drive through the grass which will make it lose distance or stop entirely.
5. If the lie is good enough, you may be able to use a fairway wood but you’ll have to experiement with this kind of shot to know your limitations and capabilities.
