PGA Golf Pro Roger Gunn - Short Game Shots from the Rough and Thin Lies

August 8th, 2007 · No Comments

This golf instruction video describes how to alter your short shot setup to hit the golf ball when it’s in deeper rough and when you have a thin hard pan lie.

Deep Rough
1. Swing up and down more steeply by setting up to the golf ball with it back farther in your stance, opening your stance and pressing the handle forward a little.
2. Because the clubface is delofted, you’ll need to add a higher lofted club to get the same trajectory.
3. Take some practice swings to get the feel for hitting the ground “after” the ball. You “don’t” want to try and help the ball into the air by scooping at it.

Thin Hard Pan Lie
You want to be sure you catch the ball first and then the turf.
1. Set up the same as for deep rough.
4. Use less wrist and have the feeling of dragging the golf club through impact with your arms/shoulders.
