Roger Gunn - Tips to become a Scratch Golfer and the “bladed wedge” chip shot

August 8th, 2007 · No Comments

Ever wondered what it takes to become a scratch golfer. In this golf instruction video, Roger illustrates the difference in the short game between two golfers. One golfer only chips 3 feet closer to the hole than the other golfer, but over a 4 day tournament, that equates to about 20 strokes because of the difficulty in making a 6 foot putt verses a 3 foot putt.

How to hit a “bladed wedge” golf shot. You hit a bladed wedge when your golf ball is on the fringe of the green, resting against the second cut of long grass. The goal is to hit the golf ball in the middle or equator with the leading edge of the clubface.

The second place to use this shot is when you are just a foot or two from the fringe off of the green and you have a somewhat steep downhill shot onto the green where you just need to barely get the ball moving downhill onto the fringe to be able to roll it onto the green near the hole.

1. Use a putting grip
2. Use a putting stroke
3. Use a putting stance
