Rules and Etiquette

August 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

Most golf rules are standard to the game of golf and you need to know them no matter where you play. Each golf course can have rules of its own and it’s important to become familiar with the rules on each golf course you play at.

A major point of etiquette to point out is that while someone else is putting, you should remain as silent and motionless as possible while also standing away from their target line in the back or in front of them.

Another good part of etiquette is to pull or tend the pin for someone who is putting before you when they are farther away from the hole than you are. If they are off of the green, see if they want the pin in or out of the hole and if they are on the green, ask if they would like the pin pulled or tended where you stand to the side of the pin and pull it out before their pin arrives at the hole. Make sure that anytime you lay the pin on the green, that you lay it out of the way where a golf ball won’t come into contact with it while someone is still playing.

Don’t step on the target line of a person putting on the green so that you keep your spike marks out of their way.

Don’t let your shadow get over the target line or be anywhere it would be distracting during somone’s putt.
